  Exercises for Wrist Tendonitis
 Tendonitis in the Wrist
Wrist tendonitis is a common condition characterized by irritation and inflammation of the tendons around the wrist joint. People with wrist tendonitis often complain of pain over the area of inflammation in the wrist.

Wrist tendonitis can occur as a result of injury, overuse, or with aging as the tendon loses elasticity. Overuse is the most common cause of wrist tendonitis. It is common for golfers and people in the construction field to complain of wrist tendonitis.

A tendon is a tough yet flexible band of fibrous tissue. The tendon connects muscle to the bone. When a tendon becomes inflamed, movement will become painful. This condition is called tendonitis, which literally means inflammation of the tendon. Wrist tendinitis is simply the inflammation of the tendons connecting muscle to bone in the wrist.

Get Soothing Relief for Wrist Tendonitis

Symptoms of wrist tendonitis include:
_ Pain and tenderness along a tendon, usually in proximity to the wrist joint.
_ Pain is worse with movement or activity.
_ Pain at night.
_ Tenderness and swelling over the bit where the tendon inserts onto the wrist bone.
_ Pain when you try to bend the wrist against resistance.
_ Stiffness after activities involving the wrist.

The goal of wrist tendonitis treatment is to relieve pain and reduce inflammation. Often, rest, ice and home care pain relievers are all that's needed. The goals of wrist tendonitis treatment and  rehabilitation include;
_ Protection of the injured tissues to allow healing and to control the early inflammatory phase.
_ Ice packs or ice massage.
_ Rehabilitate flexibility, strength and muscle imbalance, and control physical activities with the aid of taping and splinting.
_ Return to full activity as wrist tendonitis symptoms allow.

The goal of rehabilitation should be designed to decrease the symptoms, strengthen the muscles of the affected area and increase flexibility. The person with wrist tendonitis must return to sports activity or the activities that initially caused the wrist tendonitis carefully and slowly. Criteria for resuming full physical activity should be based on function, not time.

Inflammation can also be treated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications such as Motrin or Advil. These medications can be helpful treatments for wrist tendonitis but do have side effects. Side effects of these medications can include stomach upset and bleeding problems.

Your doctor might suggest treating your wrist tendonitis with steroid drug injections. Injections of cortisone reduce wrist tendonitis inflammation and can help ease pain. However, this wrist tendonitis treatment should be used with great care because repeated injections may weaken the tendon or cause undesirable side effects. Cortisone injections can also increase your risk of rupturing a tendon.

Prevention is the best treatment for wrist tendonitis. The key to avoiding problems such as wrist tendonitis is to slowly increase the intensity of your exercise and avoid repetitive movements in the wrist..

If you experience wrist tendonitis, you are more likely to have symptoms again down the road, but with an intelligent approach to your exercise or activity routine, this problem can often be avoided.
