A Healthy Alternative: Acupuncture for Tendonitis Symptoms
 Acupuncture for Tendonitis Symptoms
For more than a thousand years acupuncture, part of traditional Chinese medicine, has been used to treat illnesses including tendonitis. While acupuncture is not a traditional therapy for tendonitis, acupuncture has been used as a tendonitis therapy and to treat diseases in China for more than 2,500 years.

Natural cures like acupuncture for tendonitis symptoms can be an effective alternative to surgery or pharmaceutical approaches. Studies show acupuncture is just as effective as a tendonitis therapy as traditional medicine.

Acupuncture as a tendonitis therapy involves a practitioner inserting very small needles along specific points on the body. This helps balance the flow of energy. Since it creates the best environment for healing of the tendon fiber, acupuncture is popular as a tendonitis therapy. If you choose acupuncture as a tendonitis therapy, look for an experienced practitioner.

Acupuncture is ideal as a tendonitis therapy because people with tendonitis experience so much pain. Acupuncture releases the pain by unblocking the meridians. Also, acupuncture is used as a tendonitis therapy because acupuncture can be used in the immediate vicinity of the tendonitis.

The main reason most people opt for acupuncture as a tendonitis therapy is because there are side effects involved with taking medications. Also acupuncture may be more ideal as a tendonitis therapy since some people may become addicted to medications used for tendonitis pain relief or have trouble sleeping.

In addition, with acupuncture as a tendonitis therapy, you will not experience digestive system and liver damage as you might have with medications.

Alternative medicine such as acupuncture as a tendonitis therapy is an alternative to surgery or pharmaceutical approaches. Some studies have shown acupuncture is just as effective as a tendonitis therapy as traditional medicine.

While a controlled study is needed to confirm the findings, preliminary studies have suggested that daily use of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation or TENS for one to two weeks eliminates pain of tendonitis.

The National Institutes of Health conducted a confirmed study on acupuncture as a therapy for tendonitis in 1997. Their report showed acupuncture might be an effective therapy for tennis elbow, a form of tendonitis.

Another confirmed study looked at the superficial insertion of acupuncture needles and normal deep insertion in 82 people with tennis elbow. Although the difference was only temporary, the study indicated greater improvement among the participants treated with deep acupuncture.

Still another study compared superficial to deep-insertion acupuncture in 44 participants with shoulder pain. The results also showed, at least in the short term, that acupuncture is viable as a tendonitis therapy. Another form of acupuncture, which can be used as a tendonitis therapy, is laser acupuncture. It is a substitute for needle acupuncture. So far studies suggest laser therapy is not as effective as needle acupuncture as a tendonitis therapy.

For example, in a double-blind study of 49 people with tennis elbow, the results did not find 10 treatments with laser acupuncture more effective than 10 treatments using fake laser acupuncture.

On the other hand, a study of acupuncture as a tendonitis therapy that used needles had better results with a controlled trial being compared to a sham group. The people in the study had shoulder tendonitis. Their condition was greatly improved with acupuncture as a tendonitis therapy.

The study found acupuncture as a tendonitis therapy produced significantly higher scores on a combined measurement of strength, ability to perform daily activities and ability to move shoulder without pain. The study also showed the success of acupuncture as a tendonitis therapy lasted more at least three months.

Traditional, deep acupuncture has been found to be very effective for tennis elbow and other forms of tendonitis. The positive results typically last as many as three months to a year. Patients who choose acupuncture as a tendonitis therapy do not suffer from side effects associated with medications and surgery.
