Exercise of the Month: Three Neck Stretches

Physical activity plays a vital role in managing arthritis. Research shows that exercise is an essential tool in managing arthritis. Regular, moderate exercise reduces joint pain and stiffness, builds strong muscle around the joints, increases flexibility and endurance and wards off other health problems.

Three Neck Stretches

  • Tilt your head sideways, with your ear going to your shoulder. Hold for 10 seconds and repeat on the other side. Do three to five repetitions.
  • Turn head to one side and look back over your shoulder. Hold for 10 seconds and repeat on the other side. Do three to five repetitions.
  • Tuck chin in and pull head straight back. Hold for 5 seconds and then tilt your face to the ceiling and hold for another 5 seconds. Repeat 5 times.
  • Look for new exercise tips designed to relieve pain, each and every month!

Recipe of the Month: Spiced Almonds

1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/3 cup orange juice
3 cups whole blanched almonds

Wipe Out Arthritis Pain -- for Good

Health Tip of the Month: Ten Things You Can Do for Your Health.

  • Cut your food intake by a little bit. Giving up just three mouthfuls a day can keep your weight from creeping up as the years go by.
  • Switch from refined grains to whole grains. Refined grain bread, rice, pasta, etc. not only lack nutrients, but can also send your blood sugar on a rollercoaster ride.
  • Drink some of your meals prepared in a blender or juicer. Juices and shakes let you enjoy more servings of fruits and vegetables per day in a convenient, delicious form.
  • Take a daily multivitamin. A good quality multi helps you cover all your nutritional bases.
  • Park farther away and walk. To get more exercise, aim for the far end of the parking lot.
  • Expand your definition of exercise. Try dancing or tend the garden with hand tools.
  • Get connected. Socially connected people tend to be healthier than the isolated.
  • Look for beauty where you can find it. Listening to the birds for a moment in the morning, watching a sunset at the beach, watching children play: moments like these can defuse stress.
  • Never stop learning about health. Read books, surf the web, take courses.
  • Be responsible for your own well-being. No one is as interested in your health as you are.
