For general maintenance and health, a daily MSM dosage of ½ teaspoon to 1 teaspoon is recommended. While some people receive immediate benefit with the maintenance dose, the vast majority of MSM users experience the best results by starting with a “loading dose.” For best results, begin with 1 teaspoon daily and gradually build up to 4 teaspoons of MSM daily over a three month period, or until you begin experiencing experience the dramatic decrease in pain and health problems. After that, gradually decrease the dose until you reach the maintenance MSM dosage amount.

Loading MSM Dosage: When first starting MSM, the goal is to start with a small amount and gradually increase the intake. (See chart below) Most people experience great results within 4 to 12 weeks.

Your pain is gone. Great! You can decrease the amount by a half-teaspoon a week until you reach the maintenance MSM dosage. For daily maintenance take 1/2 to 1 teaspoon daily. For more severe problems and during times of flare-ups take 1 to 2 teaspoons daily.

How Much OptiMSM Do You Need to Order? If taking the maintenance MSM dosage of 1 teaspoon daily, a 16-ounce jar of OptiMSM will last about 3 months. You will require more during the “loading dose” period. You want to purchase two jars of OptiMSM when placing your first order.

Your age, activity level, weight and overall physical condition all factor in to the optimal amount you need. A larger person will generally require a higher dosage than a smaller person. An older person or a person in poor health will require more than their younger, healthy counterpart.

  • A 16-ounce jar of OptiMSM equals 452 grams.

  • 2.5 grams (2,500 mg) = ½ teaspoon

  • 5 grams (5,000 mg) = 1 teaspoon

  • 10 grams = 2 teaspoon

 MSM Dosage Steps to Success:

  • Taking MSM daily.

  • Start slowly and gradually build the dosage until you get the desired result.

  • When you feel substantial health benefits, slowly decrease to a daily level of one-half to one teaspoon daily.

MSM has a slightly bitter taste, which is actually a benefit to the body. The bitter taste stimulates the liver to secrete bile to cleanses the liver. The more bitter the taste, the better the cleansing action. Many people (myself included!) find that MSM is an acquired taste and actually enjoy the taste after a while. Until you get that that point, here are a few suggestions to hide the taste;

 

  • Place a spoonful of MSM on the tip of your tongue and quickly consume a large glass of liquid. MSM is tasteless when placed on the tip of the tongue.

  • Dissolve in a small glass of warm water. Chase with another drink.

  • Mix in a small glass of juice. Cranberry Juice, tomato juice and orange juice all work well to hide the taste of the MSM. 

  • Mix in a small glass of chocolate milk.

  • MSM Crystals dissolves most best in warm liquids. If mixing in a cold liquid like juice or milk, place the desired amount of crystals in a cup or beaker and add 2 to 3 tablespoons of hot water. The Crystals will dissolve instantly. Once dissolved, you can add the mix to your favorite cold beverage to disguise the taste.

  • My personal favorite: Mix the MSM with your morning coffee. Heat does not affect the properties of MSM and it blends in quite well with the already bitter taste of coffee.

  • Blend the MSM into your morning oatmeal, a cup of yogurt, in salad dressing or any other soft food that blends well.

  • MSM is a pure mineral that can be added to any drink or food without adversely affecting the results of the MSM.
