The use of magnetic
bracelets have long held a reputable standing in
arthritis folk medicine. Recent research now places
magnetic bracelets as a bona fide arthritis treatment to
help ease the pain caused by arthritis.
British researchers
conducted a study of nearly 200 joint disease sufferers
and found that patients who wore a standard-strength
magnetic bracelet reported having less pain than those
who wore non-magnetic bracelets for 12 weeks. This
study, published in the reported British Medical
Journal, found evidence of a beneficial effect of
magnetic wrist bracelets on the pain of osteoarthritis
if the hip and knee.
Scientists suggest that
the magnetic strength is important. They said the
patients wearing the higher strength magnetic bracelets
reported the biggest improvement. High strength magnets
of 170 m Tesla or more seemed to be needed to have any
effect on pain.

Another magnetic bracelet
study, funded by the Arthritis Research Campaign,
involved 194 participants between the ages of 45 and 80
who had osteoarthritis of the hip or knee. This study
also concurred that the benefit from magnetic bracelets
is clinically significant.
Patients were given one of three bracelets - a standard
strength bracelet, a weak-strength bracelet and a
non-magnetic (placebo) bracelet -to wear for a period of
12 weeks. Using a recognized scoring scale, they were
asked to rate their pain. All three groups reported
having less pain when wearing their bracelets. The
largest reductions in pain scores were reported by the
patients who wore the standard strength bracelets. The
results of the weak magnetic group were similar to those
wearing the placebo magnetic bracelets. This suggests
that the magnetic strength of the bracelet is important.
The study confirmed that outside factors, such as
painkillers and patients beliefs about the type of
bracelet they were testing, did not affected the
results.

Therapy for Pain
The growing acceptance of
alternative health care has created much enthusiasm for
magnetic therapy. Many athletes, including professional
golfers, report feeling better when wearing a magnetic
bracelet. The use of magnetics for medicinal purposes is
hardly new. The Greeks and the Egyptians first recorded
the therapeutic value of permanent magnets four thousand
years ago. A Chinese text dating to 2000 B.C. describes
how a magnet applied to an acupuncture point had
beneficial results.
Magnetic energy has a calming, beneficial effect that
stimulates the body to increase the flow of blood and
oxygen. In addition to alleviating temporary and chronic
pain, magnets have also shown to arrest cancer cells in
animals. Other claims include magnets can help with
chronic fatigue syndrome, stress, bacterial infection
and magnetic field deficiency syndrome.
Magnetic fields are all around us. They're generated by
natural factors such as the Earth, weather, and
electrical devices such as computers, TVs, and
microwaves. These fields decrease our ph level and
reduce the effectiveness of our immune system. There are
two types of magnets including bipolar magnets. These
have repeatable north/south polarity on the dame side of
the magnet and univocal magnets, which is a term used to
distinguish the other category of magnets that are
unidirectional applied to the body. The two magnetic
poles are located on different sides of the magnet. The
south pole is on one side and the north pole is on the
other, this exploiting the laws of physics and assuring
a greater depth of penetration. It is this penetration
that stimulates the effect a person feels.
