Lupus symptoms may come and go. A lupus sign can be
vague or it can be blunt. In the beginning, the first lupus disease sign is
a low grade fever accompanied by body aches and pains this may be confused
with the flu. Consult your physician if you experience three or more lupus
symptoms;
- Thinning of hair.
- Light sensitivity.
- Sudden loss or gain of weight.
- Fatigue.
- Appetite loss accompanied by fever.
- A butterfly-shaped rash centering at the bridge
of the nose and extending across the cheeks.
- Unexplained skin rashes. The rashes may be red
and have scaling and often are anywhere from the chest to the scalp.
- Redness, pain or swelling of joints and muscles
that may transfer from one area to another.
- Tiny, often pain-free ulcers in mouth or nose.
- Pain in chest especially when a person breathes
deeply or when lying down.
- Variations in the color of fingers when exposed
to cold temperatures.
- Hypertension.
- Edema (swelling) in feet or legs.
- Headaches becoming increasingly severe or
frequent.

Lupus Information
Lupus is a systemic (total body) disease
so it can affect any system in the body. However, The following systems are
most frequently affected by lupus symptoms:
Musculoskeletal System: The lupus disease symptoms that are most common are
painful joints. Muscles may become swollen which leads to exhaustion and
weakness. Arthritis, which is not normally damaging except in people who are
taking steroids, is another lupus disease symptom.
Cutaneous System: One lupus disease symptom that more than 90% of lupus
patients complain of is skin problems. The most common of lupus disease
signs is the malar blush. Hair loss is another lupus disease sign. This is
caused by discoid lupus, a red, scaly rash that most frequently presents
itself on a person's face or scalp and can cause hair loss and scars.

Cardiovascular System: One lupus disease
sign causes the sufferer to feel like they are having a heart attack. This
is called Pericarditis (inflammation of the heart sac). Another lupus
disease sign is Vegetations (growths on valves of the heart). Still another
lupus disease sign is atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries).
Furthermore, Raynaud syndrome (blue or white color in the fingers when
exposed to cold) is a lupus disease sign.
Lungs: Lungs are involved in 50% of lupus patients. One lupus disease sign
that affects the lungs is pleurisy (inflamed lung lining), another lupus
disease symptom is pleural effusions (water caught in pockets between the
lung and chest wall). Sometimes Pneumonia can be a lupus disease sign.
Kidney System: Kidney disease is a lupus disease sign that over 50% of lupus
sufferers complain of. Kidney inflammation is one lupus disease symptom that
can go unnoticed at first.
Blood and Lymph System: One lupus disease symptom that 50% of Lupus patients
have is anemia. Thrombocytopenia and leucopenia are two other symptoms.
These are low red blood cells, low platelets, and low white blood cells
respectively. These conditions can lead to blood clots, internal bleeding,
strokes and miscarriages.
Help Your Body Heal Itself
Nervous System: The most common lupus
disease sign involving the nervous system is depression. Depression is
common because lupus affects the nervous system, people dealing with lupus
are under incredible emotional stress, and the medications used to treat the
disease have a side effect of causing depression. Stroke, psychosis,
seizures and paralysis of the nerves may also be a lupus disease sign.
Other Organs: One lupus disease symptom is stomach lining inflammation.
Another lupus disease symptom is extreme abdominal pain caused by infection
of abdominal fluid. A third lupus disease symptom is mouth and nose sores.
The liver and the eyes are rarely affected.
It is important to be aware of the lupus signs and symptoms and to report
these to your doctor. Even if a symptom comes and goes, make sure your
doctor is aware of them. This will help your doctor in diagnosing lupus.
