The phrase “gout symptom” conjures images of a man in an overstuffed chair with a huge bandaged toe elevated on a hassock. And that man certainly knows that the phrase “gout symptom” is synonymous with excruciating pain.

The first sign and symptom of gout is typically the sudden onset of a hot, red and swollen joint. In some people, the pain is so severe that even a light touch on the joint causes pain. Typically local irritation and aching proceeds to tissues becoming swollen, red, hot, and extremely painful. The pain is often describes as the worst ever experienced.
