Other symptoms of fibromyalgia include:

_ Fatigue.
_ Gastrointestinal problems like abdominal pain, bloating, gas, cramps, diarrhea and constipation.
_ Numbness or tingling sensations in the feet and/or hands.
_ Chronic headaches, which may or may not include facial and jaw pain.
_ Heightened sensitivity to loud noises, bright lights, odors, various foods, medicines, and changes in weather.
_ Painful menstrual periods and painful sexual intercourse.
_ Bladder problems like frequent urination, strong urge to urinate, and painful urination.
_ Rapid or irregular heart rate, and shortness of breath
_ Sensation of swelling (edema) in the hands and feet, even though swelling is not present.
_ Anxiety.
_ Depression.
_ Poor concentration.

Symptoms of fibromyalgia are most often seen in adult women. However, children may also exhibit fibromyalgia symptoms. Experts say children may have no set number of pain tender points, the locations on the body used to give a fibromyalgia diagnosis.

Sleep deprivation is a major sign of fibromyalgia in children. Children’s fibromyalgia signs and symptoms do not often include headache, general fatigue and morning stiffness.

For adults, chronic pain is more profound and widespread. It’s typically a common sign and symptom of fibromyalgia when you feel shooting pain, twitching, throbbing, deep muscular aching and stabbing.

If you are feeling blue, it might be a case of depression, but if you are also having bladder, sleep, anxiety problems and pain, you might want to jot down “depression” as one of the symptoms of fibromyalgia.

One-third of people with fibromyalgia experience depression as a symptom. Yet, the most common symptom of fibromyalgia is pain that is felt in the neck, shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, upper chest and head. A pain and stiffness symptom associated with fibromyalgia typically lasts for months.

Other signs such as a burning sensation, tingling and numbness are fibromyalgia symptoms that should not be overlooked. Many fibromyalgia patients complain of pain and stiffness in the morning, a sign of the problem, especially on days when the weather is cold or humid. Stress, anxiety, too much exercise or not enough exercise may also make the signs and symptoms of fibromyalgia even more apparent.

Another major symptom of fibromyalgia is fatigue. With so many tasks to put on their to-do list, a woman may feel as though she is constantly tired. At the same time, to be a symptom of fibromyalgia, the fatigue of fibromyalgia is more intense, such as when you reach the point of exhaustion.

It’s a challenge for some people to squeeze a restful night’s sleep on their to-do list. People with fibromyalgia exhibit a sign of sleep disturbances. They often wake up tired, a common symptom of fibromyalgia, even if they did lie in bed for 8 to 10 hours.

Experts believe fibromyalgia patients are missing the deep restorative stage of sleep also known as stage 4 or the alpha stage. Their deep sleep or delta stage is interrupted periodically by bursts of brain activity, leading to a person showing the sign of having fibromyalgia.

Yet another sign of fibromyalgia is nighttime muscle spasms in your legs. Also called periodic limb movement disorder or nocturnal myoclonus, the syndrome often goes hand in hand with other fibromyalgia symptoms. You may experience a numbness or tingling sensations in the hands and feet (paresthesia), a symptom of fibromyalgia. Or, you could have irritable bowel syndrome, one of the common symptoms of fibromyalgia. Constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain and bloating can each be symptoms of fibromyalgia.

Have you been experiencing facial pain or chronic headaches? Check those on your list of fibromyalgia symptoms. Many patients with fibromyalgia have tension headaches associated with tenderness in the shoulder and neck regions of the body.

Look for sensation of swollen hands and feet as a sign of fibromyalgia as well as heightened sensitivity. Patients with fibromyalgia often complain of being too sensitive to noises, touch, odors, changes in weather and bright lights.

More symptoms of fibromyalgia include chest pain or pelvic pain, painful menstrual periods in women, difficulty concentrating, mood changes, irritable bladder, dry eyes and mouth, and dizziness.

The symptoms of fibromyalgia may include, but are not limited to; vision problems, headaches, skin sensitivities and rashes, dizziness, anxiety, depression, impaired memory and concentration, ringing in the ears and impaired coordination. If you are experiencing a combination of these symptoms, visit your physician for a thorough examination and to receive a fibromyalgia diagnosis.
